Kinetic energy is defined as the energy an object possesses due to its motion, and the work needed to accelerate a body from rest to its stated velocity. CAPPA's new KINETIC CAFE is the manifestation of the spirit that embodies these same principles of accelerating students from rest to an innovative velocity of architecture, interiors, landscape, city planning, and public affairs through both static, mobile, and interactive installations. The KINETIC CAFE achieves this
through five different structures, all that can be designed and fabricated in-house The Gallery is organized with a modular track system to arrange any size, shape, and type of project. The Coffee Bar is designed for efficiency with enough storage and counter space to handle even the busiest days. Kinetic Cafe showcases two interactive installation; the main ceiling grid is a series of wooden blocks equipped to move up and down sensing a body below. The interactive shading device mimics this idea by turning individual plates when someone is in front of it. The seating and lounge area is constructed by a series of CNC'd interlocking plywood sheets and striate perpendicular to the given wall. An orange translucent plastic covers essential surfaces for workspace, as well as a study or rest area carved into the corner. The form is a static manifestation of CAPPA and its desire to propel students to an innovative future .
I specifically worked on the ceiling installation as well as the kinetic wall. The ceiling installation was created by a combination of Rhino and Grasshopper. The process is described here in my latest tutorial.
